Epitopea makes off-the-shelf mRNA cancer vaccines aimed at hidden markers that many patients' tumours share; its first vaccine is being tested to keep advanced ovarian cancer in remission.
Epitopea, founded in 2021 according to the company, consists of sister companies in Cambridge, UK and Montreal, Canada. Its CryptoMap platform, created at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer at the Université de Montréal, identifies aberrantly expressed tumour-specific antigens (Cryptigen TSAs) from what it calls the dark genome, shared across patients, for off-the-shelf RNA immunotherapies. CryptiVax-1001, an off-the-shelf mRNA vaccine, received UK MHRA approval in April 2026 for the phase 1/1b OVACT trial in HRP-positive, BRCA-wild-type high-grade serous ovarian cancer in the maintenance setting (NCT07665515). It closed a USD 31 million pre-Series A in October 2024, bringing total capital raised to more than USD 45 million, and has a research licence with MSD. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT07665515, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in June 2026.
