Acurion makes software that reads the ordinary biopsy slide a hospital already has and predicts which genetic changes the tumour carries, so a doctor can consider a targeted treatment without waiting weeks for a separate gene test.
Acurion is a San Diego company developing OncoGaze, an AI workflow that, in the company's words, predicts clinically actionable genomic biomarkers from routine digital histological tissue slides, returning a result in seconds rather than the weeks a sequencing test takes. Its website names ovarian, pancreatic and breast cancer as the first settings. The scientific co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer is Ludmil Alexandrov, professor of cellular and molecular medicine at UC San Diego, and the chief executive is Rick Fultz. In April 2026 the company closed an oversubscribed USD 4.3 million seed round against a USD 4 million target, led by TK & Partners with Mesa Verde Venture Partners, the National Foundation for Cancer Research, the Asian Fund for Cancer Research and Bootstrap Ventures, to fund clinical validation, platform development and regulatory preparation.
